It was a record that stood for almost 40 years, until last night. The torched has been passed from Kareem to LeBron as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.

When it is all said and done, LeBron James is going to be the greatest NBA player of all time. Old Boston Celtic fans had to swallow it when Michael Jordan passed Bill Russell, and now it's Jordan fans turning to accept reality.

The criteria are the key to this argument. I mean, the greatest NBA player by far was Wilt Chamberlain, but he didn't win as much, so that makes him less great.

In this argument, the answer is yes, in a game of shirts and skins, I take wilt, and I take Jordan. But resume is a different story. Resume is why Tim Duncan is in the top 5. Resume' is championships, MVPs, Finals MVPs, All-Star games, All-NBA teams, scoring titles, all of it.

If that is the case, then it is really just three, Kareem, Jordan, and LeBron. And when it is all said and done, LeBron will have over 40,000 points. No player to score 30,000 points or more has looked this impressive at this age, and who knows how much longer he will play.

I know the arguments against, the negatives, but this week it is appropriate to give the King his due. The kid from Akron was never going to be able to live up to that kind of hype, and yet he did, and even more so.

It hurts to say it, but King James will end up being just that. Long Live the King.
